Kiff Slemmons (Maxton (North Carolina, Verenigde Staten), 18 oktober 1944) was en is onder meer actief als sieraadontwerper en tentoonstellingsmaker. Zij woont en werkt in Chicago (Illinois, Verenigde Staten).
Biografie
Slemmons heeft literatuur gestudeerd aan de universiteit in Iowa (Verenigde Staten) (1963-1968) en heeft ook les gehad aan de Sorbonne te Parijs (Frankrijk) (1963). Min of meer bij toeval rolde zij in het vak van sieraadontwerper. Als zodanig is zij autodidact. In 1970 vestigde Slemmons zich als zelfstandig sieraadontwerper.
Slemmons maakt samen met de Mexicaanse kunstenaar Francisco Toledo sieraden van papier. Ook gebruikt zij in haar werk objets trouvés, oude foto’s, onderdelen van typemachines, potloden, lenzen, paardenhaar, spiegels, leer, linialen, glas, zilver en verschillende onedele metalen zoals koper en messing.
Slemmons signeert en dateert haar sieraden en objecten niet. Daarover schreef ze eens: “People should remember the piece and not the date”.
American Patrons of the Pinakothek, Susan Grant-Lewin en Slemmons zelf schonken sieraden van haar hand aan Die Neue Sammlung. Slemmons is bevriend met collega sieraadontwerper Thomas Gentille.
