Hop Brooches as Art Jewellery by Young Talents at the Museum, 2020
Sponsorship purchase by the ISSP from Juliette Même
Under the motto Art Jewellery by Young Talents at the Museum, the Friends of the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum, ISSP, annually purchase contemporary jewellery for the museum’s modern collection. In 2020 the choice is made for two hop brooches by the French jeweler Juliette Même. What is special about the brooches is that they are made very delicately from the metal of old beer cans: “These brooches create a link between the origin of the beer, the hop blossoms, and its final packaging, the can” says the graduate of the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Strasbourg (France). In her work, the jewellery artist is concerned with drawing attention to the value of things or materials that may seem uninteresting at first.
The sponsorship Art Jewellery by Young Talents at the Museum honours jewellery artists with an independent and innovative approach and is donated by the International Society of Friends of the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum (ISSP). Since 1988, the collection of the Jewellery Museum has been expanded almost annually to include contemporary jewellery.
While in recent years ISSP members have had the opportunity to serve as jurors at the annual meeting, this was not possible in 2020 due to corona conditions, and the board of directors made the decision. For the same reason, this year there will be no Artist’s Talk, which is otherwise offered exclusively for the Friends of the Museum of Jewellery.
