Deganit Stern Schocken (Israël, 11 november 1947) was en is onder meer actief als architect, sieraadontwerper, docent, auteur, installatiekunstenaar en tentoonstellingsmaker. Zij woont en werkt in (Israël).
Biografie
Stern Schocken is geboren in Kibbutz Amir in Israël. Ze is opgeleid aan de afdelingen architectuur, industrieel ontwerpen en sieraadontwerpen aan Bezalel te Jeruzalem (Israël) (1968-1973) en de afdeling jewellery design aan Sir John Cass School of Art te Londen (Verenigd Koninkrijk) (1974-1976) en de afdeling jewellery design aan Hornsey School of Art (1977-1978) in Londen (Verenigd Koninkrijk).
Vanaf 1978 is Stern Schocken met een eigen atelier gevestigd in Jeruzalem (Israël) en Herzliya (Israël). Van 2000 tot en met 2001 studeerde ze aan Middlesex University te Londen (Verenigd Koninkrijk).
Sieraden van Stern Schocken zijn vervaardigd van contrastrijke materialen: zo maakt zij vanaf 2007 sieraden van vertrapte en overreden blikjes frisdrank met Arabische opschriften in combinatie met edele metalen en diamanten. De blikjes lagen als afval langs Israëlische militaire checkpoints. Stern Schocken combineerde het blik met edelstenen en zirkonia’s en noemde deze serie Kalandia Checkpoint. Zo uitte zij haar protest tegen de manier waarop Israëlische militairen Palestijnen behandelen, een onderwerp dat haar na aan het hart ligt.
Ook vervaardigt Stern Schocken sieraden van materialen als gefossileerd hout, antiek Chinees porselein, plastics, roestvrij staal, textiel, goud, rubber, parels, papier en zilver. Ze maakt vooral broches en halssieraden.
Stern Schocken was hoofd van het Jewelry Design Department aan de Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan (Israël) (1998-2007). Deze afdeling, met een focus op industriële vervaardiging, heeft ze op verzoek van de opleiding opgezet. De In 1994 heeft Stern Schocken een masterclass verzorgd aan het Royal College of Art te Londen (Verenigd Koninkrijk). Ook heeft zij lesgegeven aan Ascola-Meimad School of Art and Design in Tel Aviv (Israël) en The Neri Bloomfield Academy of Design and Education in Haifa (Israël) (1991-1996). Tevens heeft Stern Schocken geschreven voor het Amerikaanse Art Jewelry Forum.
In 2009 heeft Stern Schocken de Inyanim opgericht, een collectief van Israëlische sieraadontwerpers.
Sieraden van Stern Schocken werden en worden gepresenteerd door onder meer Electrum Gallery, Galerie Ra, Galerie Spektrum, Galleria Antonella Villanova, Gallery Loupe, Helen Drutt Gallery en V&V.
